Shepherds and Sheep (Ezekiel 34)

In this chapter, God gives Ezekiel words for the leaders of Israel, whom he calls “shepherds,” and to the people, who are the “sheep,” but this can hold true for us today. Many of us are leaders in some capacity—leaders at work, leaders at church, leaders of a club or school activity, leaders of our friend group, leaders in our community, or leaders of our homes.

Which Way to Go? (Genesis 13)

Abram and Lot have arrived at Canaan, but between the Canaanites and the Perizzites and Lot’s flocks and Abram’s flocks, there isn’t enough grazing land to go around.  So, to keep peace between the quarreling herdsmen, Lot and Abram must separate.  Now, Abram is the elder, and he should have the first choice of which land to take, but he graciously allows Lot to take his pick.

I Will Trust God...Mostly? (Genesis 12:10-20)

At this point, Abram has left Haran and traveled about 400 miles to Canaan, the land the Lord has called him to.  Once he gets there, things will be easy because we know that Canaan is the land flowing with milk and honey, and Abram will be rewarded for trusting God.

Build An Altar (Genesis 12:1-9)

When Abram left Haran to go to Canaan, where God had called him, he was rich. We know that he had herdsmen (13:7), at least 318 men that were trained in fighting (14:14), and men that were born in his house and bought with money (17:12). Add in the families of these men, and he would easily have over a thousand people that traveled with him and that he was in charge of.

Genesis 11:31

Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife, and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there.
